Juris Fernandez and Chin Alcantara, prime movers behind the popular acoustic group Make Your Momma Proud or MYMP, finally confirmed the dissolution of their partnership.

The group made the official announcement via an email sent to Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online through their manager Carla Lozada.

According to the duo, they have decided to part ways due to “irreconcilable professional differences.”

The letter revealed Fernandez’s plan of  going solo, having already signed a one-album deal with Star Records.

Alcantara is planning to continue with MYMP and is looking for a new partner.

Rumors about the duo’s parting made inroads middle of this year when Fernandez started appearing by her lonesome in an “ASAP ‘09”’segment which has her singing with other solo artists including Richard Poon and Aiza Seguerra.

A newspaper ran a story on the matter last week, after the band failed to attend the first-ever Philippine Movie Press Club Music Awards in which the group won for Best duo/group.

That said, the band kept silent until now.

Their joint statement reads as follows:

“We have come to this difficult decision after a period of discernment and deliberation. We believe it is the best course of action for all of us in MYMP. We hope that you continue to support Juris and Chin in each of their future endeavors.

“Chin Alcantara is now searching for band members to continue as MYMP. Juris Fernandez will be launching her solo album early next year under Star Records.

“Early this year, MYMP signed a one-record contract with Star Records after 5 years with Ivory Records. They decided to come up with a solo project for Juris with Chin as record producer. Initially, Chin conceptualized the album as a departure from the usual MYMP fare to provide variety for their followers. Following the decision to part ways, Chin has agreed to finish production of the 5 songs they have already recorded.

“They will be pursuing separate careers after they conclude their remaining commitments for the year.

“MYMP has also been part of ASAP Sessionistas since its launch in January 2009. After their successful concert at Araneta Coliseum, Chin has decided to pull out of Sessionistas. He is fulfilling the commitments he has already made with the group up to their US tour this month.

“We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to everyone, especially the press and the fans for supporting and allowing us to share our music with you through the years. Maraming Salamat!”
