Arellano inched its way closer to a berth in the Sweet 16 after coasting to an easy 108-47 victory over Holy Trinity College Thursday in the Visayas-Mindanao zonal phase of the 2009 Philippine Collegiate Champions League in Bacolod City.

Jerry Miranda sizzled with 24 points while Isiah Ciriacruz and 5-foot-1 Leonard Anquilo added 13 markers each for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs can earn a Sweet 16 berth if they beat West Negros University, being played at presstime.

The Legarda-based squad earned a Sweet 16 berth last season but lost to neighboring campus San Beda in the quarterfinals.

The Mustangs, the Visayas regional champion, bungled on the opportunity to make the next round after bowing to CESAFI fourth-placer University of San Carlos, 71-58, with Joven Cortez hitting 14 points.

USC can earn its second straight Sweet 16 appearance with a win against Holy Trinity. Both are still playing at presstime.
