Former Presidential Peace Adviser Avelino “Sonny” Razon, Jr. vowed Sunday that no Manila-owned lots will be sold if he would be elected mayor of the city in the May 2010 elections.

Speaking at the Balitaan sa Tinapayan news forum in Sampaloc, Manila, Razon who is planning to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) between Nov. 21-27, this year, lamented the fact that many lots of the city were sold to the private sector.

“The lot where a city-run school is built was sold to give way to the building of a mall saddened me. Manila has many lots that we can use for housing projects, building of new schools and other projects. So why sell the city lots? Maraming lupain pero nauubos na sa kakabenta ng city government," said Razon during the news forum.

Razon said his other priority is to provide free medical services and medicines for the poor in Manila. “Our residents will seek treatment from the city-run hospitals pero ang libre lang iyong reseta. Bibilhin nila lahat pati cotton, medicines lahat iyon bibilhin sa drugs stores. Our program is actually to provide free medical treatment and even medicines,” he said.

“As to the housing project, I had a copy of the 2008 Commission on Audit report. Projected budget ito, the city has P820 million and the city government can build up several condominium units. Sa P820 million, only 50 percent was used, mas maganda sana kung magagamit iyong entire P820 million for the housing project,” he claimed.

Apart from housing and medical programs for Manila residents, Razon said his other priorities are education, peace and order, job opportunity and tourism and to attract investors.

But he said anti-graft and corruption program is the most important thing in his governance. “I am not a traditional politician, hindi ko sisirain ang tagal ko sa serbisyo bilang pulis sa loob ng tatlong taon panunungkulan kung sakaling mahalal tayo,” he said.

For the past several months, Razon has been pushing his advocacy of “Alternatibong Pagbabago Para sa Manilenyo” (Alternative Change for Manileños).

A primary concern that has been the subject of the consultations is the more effective delivery of basic services such as health, education, livelihood and peace and order.

Razon, who hails from Sta. Cruz and is currently a resident of Malate, was chief of the Philippine National Police before he became presidential peace adviser. He also did two tours as director of the Western Police District (now known as the Manila Police District).
