Unheralded teams Ateneo and Adamson scored a pair of upsets on Sunday as the quarterfinals of the 6th Shakey's V-League Second Conference unfurled at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles, behind the efforts of Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio and guest player Charo Soriano, stunned second-running Far Eastern University, 25-16, 26-24, 24-26, 25-14, while the Lady Falcons made short work of San Sebastian, 25-15, 25-13, 25-12.
Pau Soriano and Angela Benting each scored 15 points while Gill Justillo added 13 as Adamson improved to an even 4-4 card after blasting the five-time reigning NCAA champions in just 54 minutes.
"It's anybody's game pagdating dito sa quarterfinals. Kulang pa siguro ang laro namin pero kaya pa naming magimprove," said Lady Falcons coach Dulce Pante, whose team forced San Sebastian into a tie for third place with Ateneo at 5-3.
No Lady Stag scored in double figures with Princess Elaine Cruz leading the way with just five points as coach Roger Gorayeb opted to use his reserves for most of the last two sets.
Adamson breezed through in the second set when it zoomed to a 7-0 start before taking a commanding 15-2 advantage.
The Lady Eagles drew confidence from their impressive victory over Adamson last Thursday.
"Nakakuha kami ng kumpiyansa mula sa panalo namin sa Adamson kaya nadala namin yun dito sa game na 'to," said coach Clint Malazo, whose team improved to a 5-3 record for fourth spot.
