The Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office recommended the filing of charges of estafa and four counts of violation of the anti-bouncing check law against Annalyn Manalo, wife of popular comedian-TV host Jose Manalo.

In unison, Assistant City Prosecutor Ronald Torrijos also approved the filing of one count of violating Batas Pambansa 22, or the anti-bouncing check law, against Annalyn’s sister, Angeline Sy.

No charges were recommended against Jose Manalo, one of the hosts of the noontime TV show, “Eat Bulaga.”

It can be recalled that the couple as with Sy were named in a complaint filed by several business groups for allegedly issuing “bouncing checks” in transactions involving several pieces of jewelry and some real estate properties amounting to millions of pesos.

Among those who sought the help of the National Buerau of Investigation (NBI) were traders Violy Alipio, Roel Lumbang, Purificacion D. Naive, Annie Dizon, Naneth Ugaddan, Susan Escosma, Aida Latuc, Trinidad Romeo Egya, and Elenita Pabalate.

The group alleged that the couple as with Sy used the names of several celebrities including Kris Aquino to dupe them of millions.

Manila Bulletin Entertainment Online tried to get a comment from the Manalos but the comedian’s mobile phone was turned off.

“Eat Bulaga” producer Malou Choa-Fagar, on the other hand, refused to issue a statement regarding the matter citing that it’s “a personal case.”
