UST tossers eye 8th straight win
Games this Tuesday (The Arena, San Juan)
2 p.m. — Adamson vs FEU
4 p.m. — Ateneo vs St. Benilde
6 p.m. — UST vs San Sebastian
University of Santo Tomas tries to extend its winning streak to eight when it battles NCAA champion San Sebastian College at the start of the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses completed a seven-game sweep of the elims, but coach Shaq Delos Santos reminded his players that their journey to the Promised Land starts only this Tuesday when they clash with the SSC belles at 6 p.m.
“Everybody is aching to beat us,” Delos Santos said. “That’s why we should not slow down now but rather keep up our intensity.”
Ateneo, meanwhile, tries to follow up its impressive win the last time out when it battles the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers in the 4 p.m. match of triple header.
The Lady Eagles scored a shock four-set win against Far Eastern University, allowing them to gain a share of the third spot with SSC at 5-3.
Adamson, meanwhile, takes on FEU at 2 p.m. in the event presented by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.
The Lady Eagles are slightly favored to prevail against the Blazers, who took the last quarters slot at 2-5 in the event backed by Mikasa, Accel, Mighty Bond, and OraCare.
The Lady Blazers hopes to pounce on the absence of Ateneo guest player Charo Soriano, who took a two-week vacation.
It will be the second time in five days that UST and SSC will be facing each other with the Tigresses, who beat the SSC belles to claim the first conference crown last June, sweeping their rivals last Friday to complete a sweep of the single round elims.
The Tigresses proved too much against SSC in that game that none of the SSC lasses scored more than five points. UST was also dominant at the net, scoring 41 kills against SSC's 17.
“We can’t afford to become overconfident,” said Delos Santos, hoping to steer the squad to its fifth title this season.
