Nograles airs view on GMA plan for next year
Speaker Prospero Nograles is not supporting a proposal for the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD to field President Arroyo as its vice presidential bet, saying that the chief executive should be left alone in deciding her political future.
Reacting to the suggestion of Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez, Nograles said he considers Arroyo’s plan for next year as a “personal judgment call.”
“It’s not right to give her unsolicited advice at this time,” Nograles told reporters as he criticized Suarez’s for announcing his proposal to the media.
In a news forum last week, Suarez strongly urged Arroyo to consider joining the 2010 national elections as running mate of preferred LKC presidential, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro. “I am not like Danny Suarez who keeps on advising the President,” Nograles said.
He explained that like Arroyo, all politicians running in 2010 “are thinking of their political future” and should be allowed to decide in accordance with their own “political interest.”
Nograles also assailed political foes for criticizing as a “weakness” LKC’s seeming difficulty in finding a vice presidential partner for Teodoro. “Winning an election is not a matter of who will nominate a vice president first,” he said.
He also pointed out that the unabated criticism hurled by political rivals of LKC only indicates that they fear the party to be a formidable foe in the 2010 elections.
Teodoro’s running mate is expected to be announced when the LKC national executive committee holds an emergency meeting at a Mandaluyong City hotel. Ray Roquero, LKC deputy secretary general, said Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla heads the short list of possible vice presidential bet of the administration party.
