PICE 35th national confab features ‘green buildings’

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Inc. will hold its 35th national convention with the theme, “PICE: Leading the Way to Green Buildings and Infrastructure” at the Camp John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City from November 26 to 28.

PICE President Engineer Venancio I. Besavilla Jr. said members in 96 chapters from Cagayan to Sulu, belonging to government departments and agencies, construction companies, consulting firms, colleges and universities are expected to join the convention.

The Civil Engineering Week will be observed on Nov. 23-29.

The convention will highlight PICE construction technologies, services and building materials, best celebrated civil engineering week exhibit, national awards, a job fair, international roundtable discussions, college of fellows meeting, 10th Bridge Building Competition, and the 12th National Civil Engineering Students’ Conference.

Special lectures will tackle Disaster Risk Management Background of DMAPs for infrastructure, by Dr. Benito M. Pacheco, director of Institute of Civil Engineering, University of the Philippines and chairman, committee on Disaster Mitigation and Preparedness Program and Disaster Quick Response Program.

The topic on Green Building will be discussed by Engr. David G. Sanchez, PICE National Business Manager, as well as an update on the court cases regarding the implementing rules and regulations of the National Building Code.

The second day sessions will take up Structural engineering: Laboratory Testing and Semi-Rigid Elastic Analysis of Steel Beam-to-Column Connections, with authors Dr. Andres Winston C. Oreta, Engr. Angelo H. Lapuz, Danilo S. Baluyot Jr., and Christopher N. Camina. Engr. Angelo H. Lapus will be the presentor.

The topic Retrofitting of Concrete Buildings will have Dr. Danilo C. Terante as author-presentor, while in transportation engineering, the topic is Urban Transport Planning of General Santos City, Philippines with Engineers Riza Marie T. Paches, Mylen S. Gecosala, and Dr. Alexis M. Fillone as authors, and Engineer Paches as presentor.
