As the wait for their highly-anticipated battle reaches its homestretch, hints about Miguel Cotto battling weight problems continues to load up.

On Thursday, Cotto’s camp continues to ward off queries about the world welterweight champion’s current weight status a few days before his 12-round bout with Filipino pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao Sunday morning (Manila time).

“He’s feeling good. You’ll know about the weight this Friday (Las Vegas time),” Puerto Rican Bryan Perez told The Bulletin yesterday via overseas call.

A close friend of Cotto, Perez also works as the president of the champion’s promotional outfit in Puerto Rico.

The official weigh-in is set the day before fight night with both Cotto and Pacquiao agreeing to a face-off at a catch weight of 145lbs with the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown at stake.

The defending champion Cotto’s amiable conditioning coach Phil Landman, meantime, also refuses to divulge any number when contacted. All Landman assured is that their fighter has never struggled in weight in any of their eight outings in the welterweight class.

“All I can tell you is Miguel came in at 146 several times in the past. He’s been responding very well to our program as early as two weeks ago. We’re relaxed right now and we’re just maintaining what we’ve achieved in training,” said Landman in a separate interview with The Bulletin.
