NP to present complete slate next week
Nacionalista Party standard bearer Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. Friday said his party is ready to present a complete slate next week, including a vice presidential candidate and a senatorial line up that is “very good and promising.”
Interviewed by reporters before delivering his speech at the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Top Level Management Conference at Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City, Villar hinted that his vice presidential candidate for the May 2010 elections is a “senator.”
Sen. Loren Legarda, vice presidential bet of the Nacionalist People’s Coalition (NPC), is rumored to be his running mate for next year’s election.
“My senatorial slate is something we could be proud of… they are serious in helping and serving the country,” he said.
At the same time, Villar advised Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to welcome the controversy linking him to an alleged tainted road deal.
Villar said the senator should face the issue headlong in the same way he did when his political rivals linked him to an alleged P200 million overpriced C-5 road extension project.
Villar said Aquino should explain his side and deny the accusations if the road project of the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) project is aboveboard.
I was accused on the C-5 road issue. I answered all of it.
There were many hearings and I answered everything, explaining it was not true, it was not illegal and that the project is good for the nation),” Villar said.
I don’t see any problem if the issue is not true. I accepted all the accusations hurled by the presidentiables against me just to prove that I am innocent),” he said.
Aquino should use the issue as an opportunity to explain his side.
Villar said he would not initiate asking the Senate to investigate the alleged anomalies in the project.
