Bongbong may join senatorial slates of two parties
The son and namesake of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos has accepted the offer of former President Joseph Estrada to be a guest candidate in the senatorial line up of the former leader’s Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).
But Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. himself insinuated that he may also run as “official candidate” of another opposition party.
At the 54th birth anniversary celebration of his elder sister, Imee, last Thursday night, Bongbong said his acceptance of Estrada’s offer was not yet final as he might still run under a different party.
“Yes, I am a guest candidate of President Erap but it doesn’t mean that is what I will end up to,” Bongbong said in a TV interview.
Sources said Bongbong has also cut a deal with the Nacionalista Party of Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar regarding his senatorial bid.
Bongbong’s supporters believe he has a good chance of becoming a senator because majority of the voters in the 2010 general elections were not yet born during the martial law years, which is considered as the most antagonized period in the country’s history after the World War II.
Imee, for her part, said her brother’s being a guest candidate of PMP merely proves her family’s devotion to Estrada.
“Loyal kami kay President Erap,” Imee said.
