CAMP GENERAL ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — Senior Superintendent Diosdado G. Ramos, Bulacan police director, Friday said they have foiled the operations of a syndicate cloning ATM and credit cards following the arrests of four of its alleged members Wednesday afternoon during an entrapment at a gasoline station in Barangay Sta. Rita, Guiguinto town, this province.

Citing a report, Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo A. dela Cruz, Central Luzon police regional director, identified the suspects as Ernesto Luy, 54, a businessman from Parañaque, Metro Manila; Jose Mari Pena, 35, of Sta. Cruz, Manila; Marivic Loreno, 48, and Joseph Guarin, 36, both of Barangay Pinagbakahan, Malolos City.

Seized from the suspects were 21 major credit cards, Master cards, Visa cards, and other credit cards from big commercial banks.

Luy, whom police believed as one of the ranking leaders of the gang, even tried to bribe Supt. Erick Ancheta, Guiguinto police chief, with P50,000 but failed.

Ramos said with this scheme, the syndicate can easily withdraw money from ATM machines or make transactions using the cloned ATM and major credit cards.

Ramos said, Ancheta and his men also seized six fake driver licenses with different names but all bearing ID picture of Luy.

The suspects are now under the custody of the Guiguinto Police Station.
