2 carnappers killed in shootout in QC
It was the end of the road for two suspected carnappers on the first hours of Fridays the 13th when they got cornered and killed in a shootout by chasing policemen after having forcibly taken a car from a physician in Quezon City also before dawn Friday.
Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District, said that they have yet to identify the two suspects who died on the spot during the shootout at 1:30 a.m. in front of the Neopolitan Subdivision along Mindanao Avenue.
He described one of the suspects as between 30 to 35 years old, 5’5” in height, slim built, and had a fair complexion while the other suspect was between 35 to 40 years old, slim built, sports long hair. Both men wore T-shirts, jeans and rubber shoes.
Police found in the possession of the suspects a Magnum 357 revolver and a caliber .38 revolver.
Authorities also recovered the silver gray Honda City (VCC-728) that the suspects used and that they also forcibly took from its owner physician Angelito Alava, 57, also a resident of Mendoza Ville, Project 8, Quezon City.
Alava said that there were three suspects involved when the car was taken away from him at around 12:40 a.m. in front of the Mighty Supermart located along Shorthorn St. in Project 8.
Alone at that time, the physician recounted that he was about to board his car when the suspect suddenly appeared with a gun pointed at him. Alava was forced the board the car that the suspects also boarded and driven off.
The victim said that he was dropped off by the suspects along Road 20 also in Project 8 and, after the suspects sped off, immediately reported the incident to police.
After a police alarm was raised for the stolen vehicle, a police patrol car spotted Alava’s car at 1:15 a.m. at the Manggahan area along Commonwealth Avenue but only saw two men aboard the vehicle as the third suspect was believed dropped off along the way.
Policemen tried to flag down the car but the suspects sped off leading the car chase between police and the carnappers.
With more patrol cars joining the chase, the suspects were eventually cornered in front of the Neopolitan Subdivision where the Honda City hit a gutter and forced the suspects to jump out of the car and fire at chasing police.
Policemen retaliated and killed the suspects on the spot. (with a report by Rizal Obanil)
