The NCAA won the bragging rights as this year's best collegiate league by smothering its counterparts from the UAAP, 76-60, Saturday in the Bantay Bata 163 All-Star Game at The Arena in San Juan.

Backed by the league's two Most Valuable Players, the stars of the country's oldest collegiate league shrugged off a sluggish start with a second half barrage to even their annual duel with the UAAP at an even 2-2 record.

"Gusto namin pakita na basta't dala namin ang pangalan ng NCAA, iisa kami," said coach Ato Agustin of NCAA champion San Sebastian.

San Sebastian's Jimbo Aquino, the league's Finals MVP for leading the Stags to the championship, erupted for 15 second half points on five triples to finish with 17 points to be adjudged as the game's MVP.

League MVP John Wilson was also a big contributor with 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in what could be his last appearance in a JRU uniform.

Both were responsible in a key 20-4 blast that made a slim 41-37 lead into a commanding 46-38 advantage late in the third quarter.

Although the UAAP stars, led by Ateneo's Eric Salamat and Far Eastern University's RR Garcia, cut the deficit to just nine points, 61-52, with eight minutes left to play, Aquino capped off a 10-0 run with a triple for the NCAA's biggest lead at 19 with 3:30 remaining.

No UAAP cager scored in double figures with FEU's Reil Cervantes leading the way with nine points despite having five members of the Smart Gilas national team on its fold.

The NCAA juniors made it a double celebration in the curtain raiser when it scored an 85-84 win over its UAAP counterparts. San Beda's Arthur dela Cruz was named MVP after scoring 17 points.

University of Santo Tomas' Allen Maliksi won the Slam Dunk contest with a score of 46 points to beat San Sebastian's Ronald Pascual, Wilson bagged the three-point shootout with 19 points while the Father and son tandem of Joel and Ael Banal took the 2-3 Ball after nailing 70 points.
