Ateneo, FEU duel for last semis spot
Game this Sunday (The Arena, San Juan)
4 p.m. — FEU vs Ateneo
There will be no tomorrow for Ateneo and Far Eastern University when they clash in a winner-take-all showdown for the last Final Four seat this Sunday in the sixth Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan City.
Game time is 4 p.m. with neither team carrying significant advantage owing to their split head-to-head encounter this season.
The Lady Tamaraws thumped the Lady Eagles in four sets in the elimination round before the Katipunan-based squad evened things up with a similar four-set win in the tourney backed by Accel, Mikasa, OraCare and Mighty Bond.
Both teams, including Adamson University, ended their quarterfinal campaigns tied at third on similar 7-5 record, but the Lady Falcons clinched the third on account of their superior tiebreak score, leaving FEU and Ateneo disputing the last semis ticket.
League-leading University of Santo Tomas and defending champion San Sebastian have earlier clinched the No. 1 and No. 2 spots after chalking up 10-2 and 8-4 cards, respectively.
Though they are even in their personal encounters, Ateneo appears to enjoy momentum against FEU, having beaten UST in five sets last Friday that forced the sudden death for the fourth semis berth in the tournament sponsored by Shakey's Pizza.
Also, while the Lady Eagles appear to be on the rise, FEU is on a slide, losing four of their five games in the quarters after an impressive 6-1 campaign in the single round robin elims of the tournament organized by Sports Vision.
