Jay-Z scores his first US number one song from his own album this week with “Empire State Of Mind.” featuring Alicia Keys.

His previous trips to the top of the Hot 100 chart were his collaborations with other artists that were part of their albums. These were “Heartbreaker” by Mariah Carey, “Umbrella” by Rihanna and “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce.

“Empire State Of Mind” sold over 475,000 copies in its first week. It’s the second single off “The Blueprint 3” album to sell over a million copies after his “Run This Town” song with Rihanna and Kanye West.

“The Blueprint 3” is Jay Z’s 11th number one album which enabled him to surpass Elvis Presley’s record as solo act with the most number one albums in Billboard chart history.

This week’s runner-up to Jay-Z’s song is “Fireflies” by Owl City which sinks a step to number two. Jason Derulo stays at number three with “Whatcha Say” as with Iyaz’s “Replay” which latches onto fourth place.

Country music group, Lady Antebellum, is the biggest gainer in the top ten singles chart by jumping from 22 last week to number five. Britney Spears improves on her chart position by moving up two notches to number six.

Jay Sean slides “Down” to number seven from last week’s number five, as with Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The U.S.A.” which slips two notches to number eight.

Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” retreats two steps down to number nine. Key$ha’s “Tiktok” rounds up the list at number ten.

Meanwhile, Bon Jovi rocks the apex of the Billboard album charts with their new release, “The Circle.”

Their fourth number one album in a career that spans three decades, “The Circle” has sold 163,000 copies so far on the strength of its single, “We Weren’t Born To Follow.”
