Wider fuel discounts for jeepneys sought
Following the lifting of the price freeze policy, oil companies have also been swamped with proposals to extend the discount lanes for public utility vehicles (primarily jeepneys) beyond the typhoon-devastated areas.
The oil firms have in effect, reinstated their discounted PUV lanes, but applications have just been limited to areas specified under Executive Order 845 or the successive Palace order shelving the controlled pricing imposition.
Primordially, Chevron Philippines Inc. announced the activation of its PUV lanes, as a component of the “assistance package” it will be bestowing to the transport sector. Needless to say, this comes with expectation that the cost reduction impact will trickle down to the commuting public.
“Our initiatives are specifically focused at the transport sector and commuters – two of our most important stakeholders,” Chevron Philippines manager for policy, government and public affairs Mark Quebral noted.
