Lovers found dead in Cebu motel
CEBU CITY – A 30-year-old band vocalist and his 32-year-old lover were found dead with gunshot wounds inside a motel in Barangay Mabolo last Saturday but police initially ruled out foul play in the couple’s death.
Police said it is possible that Gerald Espinosa, a veterinary medicine student, shot first his girlfriend Gay Murielle del Rosario, a band vocalist, before pulling the trigger on himself afterwards.
PO3 Julius Mabunay of the Cebu City Homicide Division said the two checked in the motel Friday night and told motel attendants they will be checking out at noon on Saturday but a room boy heard at least five gunshots before 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The room boy told the police he did not bother to knock on the lover’s door. When he tried to check the room to inquire if the two were ready to check out, the room boy said he saw blood flowing through the gap on the floor.
Police elements forcibly opened the room’s door and saw the bloodied bodies of the couple. Del Rosario was dressed in casual clothes while Espinosa was still in his underwear.
Del Rosario had gunshot wounds on the head and back while Espinosa had a gunshot wound on his temple.
Police said a relative of Del Rosario’s had revealed that the latter was about to break up with her lover, Espinosa, to marry her fiancé who was set to arrive in Cebu from work overseas. Investigators said Espinosa could have been angry with Del Rosario’s decision to put an end to their relationship, causing both their bloody deaths.
Investigators revealed the room was not messed up and there was no sign of forcible entry.
