4 p.m. — SSC vs Adamson

University of Santo Tomas and Adamson University scored contrasting wins over separate rivals on Tuesday at the start of their respective semifinals series in the sixth Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan City.

While the UST Tigresses had an easy time beating Far Eastern University, 25-10, 25-22, 25-20, the Adamson Falcons needed the stellar performance of Angela Benting to overcome San Sebastian College, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 25-11, 15-11.

Benting fired a career and record-tying 37 points, including nine points in the fifth and deciding set as Adamson wrapped up the win in more than two hours.

The Tigresses, on the other hand, used a solid stand at the net, scoring 12 blocks against the Lady Tamaraws’ four to likewise move within a win of clinching a finals berth.

It was the third straight win by UST over FEU this season.

The Tigresses and the Lady Falcons could forge a finals date should they prevail anew on Friday at the same venue.

Angeli Tabaquero topscored with 19 points while skipper Aiza Maizo and Maru Banaticla each had 11 for the Tigresses, who are looking for their fifth title.

“She really had an awesome game. Her confidence is back and her trust with her teammates is also there that’s why she had good looks offensively,” Adamson mentor Dulce Pante said of Benting.

The Negros Occidental-native Benting was so superb that she posted several firsts in the league, including the highest scoring output by a local player in league history.
