DAVAO CITY (PNA) – City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has assured police and military security for the families of the two warring Muslim clans in Central Mindanao who are living and studying in the city.

Duterte directed Task Force Davao chief Col. Oscar Lactao to craft a contingency plan on how to secure the families of Mangudadatus and Ampatuans.

The mayor said residences of both families and schools where their children study will also have to be monitored by the authorities.

Duterte said whatever plans Lactao will recommend have to be adopted as the city’s policy.

On the other hand, Lactao met with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the Regional Mobile Group, the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Special Action Force, and the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (ID) to come up with a consensus as to how to go about with the contingency plan.

Lactao said whatever decision they will come up with will be presented to the mayor, police regional director Pedro Tango and Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza of the 10th ID.

Among the areas identified to have been the residences of the two warring clans are the Juna Subdivision, Marfori Heights, Solariega Subdivision, and Doña Luisa Village.

Also to be monitored are schools like the Ateneo de Davao University, Philippine Women’s College and other learning institutions, where both families’ children are presently studying.

Duterte admitted that the rift between the two clans is a big problem that cannot be addressed simply by the police.

“We must be prepared for any outbreak between the two warring camps. Task Force Davao will take the lead role to ensure that no violence happens in the city. We do not know about the dynamics of the politics there (in Maguindanao), the problem is that both of the warring parties have houses and families here,” Duterte said.
