BUTUAN CITY – Caraga Region’s Gender and Development Coordinating Committee (GADCC) has spearheaded the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Woman (VAW), this was learned during press conference here early this week.

The 18-day campaign is authorized under Presidential Proclamation 1172 of 2006, which declared November 25 to December 12 as the holding of the campaign.

The Philippine Commission on Women and the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking will also be actively participating in the campaign this year.

It was learned that the campaign aims to promote human rights and to eradicate violence against women and other discriminations.

With the theme “Commit-Act-Demand: We Can End Violence Against Women,” this year’s campaign will pay respect to the people who have worked hard in bringing VAW to the forefront of global attention.

It also aims to enjoin everyone to help in ending violence against women. Local government officials have been invited to be the guest speakers during the opening day.

Government agencies expected to participate in the activity include the Department of Justice (DoJ), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Commission on Human Rights (CHR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Several ranking local government unit officials in the city led by City Mayor Democrito Plaza II also participated in the affair.
