Rock band invades Tawi-Tawi
BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi – About 5,000 local residents of this town trooped to the Department of Education (DepEd) complex here to watch a musical extravaganza show on Saturday by a popular Filipino rock-band Sponge Cola.
Tawi-Tawi Provincial Executive Secretary Nurjay M. Sahali said the concert answers the clamor of the youth sector for musical extravaganza in this town as it also demonstrates the province’s peacefulness.
Sahali said the concert dubbed “Konsiertong Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan” was the first of its kind in the province and has gathered an estimated 5,000 screaming fans, mostly youngsters.
The concert was sponsored by Tawi-Tawi Gov. Hadji Sadikul Sahali, the Tawi-Tawi provincial government and Juana Hotel.
The band came with the entire cast and crew tagging along their musical and sound instruments plus the modern lighting effects which electrified not only those who watched their performance but also distant areas who can hear the booming audio, Sahali said.
The presence of sexy star and GMA’s Bubble Gang mainstay Ms. Maureen Larrazabal, as guest performer, spiced-up the concert as she sang “Crazy for You” to the delight of the crowd especially the male audience, Sahali recounted.
The live concert was originally scheduled last September in time for the celebration of the 35th Kamahardikaan Tawi-Tawi or Tawi-Tawi Anniversary.
Sponge Cola members confessed during a conference with newsmen here that they were nervous earlier in coming to this town, which is even nearer to Sabah, Malaysia than to Zamboanga City.
