A big smile and thank you were all President Arroyo Friday gave to the people of Pampanga clamoring her to run as their representative in next year’s elections.

The President remained coy about her political plans in 2010 and merely expressed gratitude to a large group coming from second district of Pampanga that staged a pro-government rally held inside the Malacañang.

Around 300 farmers, fisherman, and residents of the President’s home district trooped to the Kalayaan grounds shortly before noon to convince President to run for congresswoman in next year’s polls.

The group, permitted to enter the heavily guarded Malacañang but without their banners, chanted “GMA, GMA, GMA!” and urged the President to make her decision that day.

The President, coming from the presentation of Order of Lakandula to CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida at the Rizal Hall, went and greeted her supporters gathered outside Kalayaan hall, a stone's throw away from her residence.

“Thank you, thank you,” Mrs. Arroyo said, as she shook hands with her cabalens under the blazing sun.

The group even presented a manifesto to the President to continue to serve the people after her term expires by running as congresswoman of the 2nd district of Pampanga. The manifesto was signed by 800 community leaders representing 10,000 residents of Lubao, Sasmuan, Guagua, Sta. Rita, Floridablanca at Porac.

“Kayo ang gusto naming kakatwan sa amin sa Kongreso; upang doon ay ituloy ninyo ang mga nasimulang proyekto at program, upang doon ay patuloy ninyong maitaguyod ang inyong mga dakilang mithiin hindi lamang para sa Pampanga kundi sa buong bayan,” the manifesto read.

Jun Panganiban, a member of the pro-Arroyo group, said the Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo has agreed to give way to her mother if she decides to seek a congressional seat next year during the group’s consultations with him.

“If the people don’t want her as President, we want her as congresswoman of the second district of Pampanga,” he said in an interview.
