Rock band Callalily has always been accommodating to their fans when it comes to signing autographs and having their pictures taken, but they will never sign a pirated copy of their CDs.

“It’s not cool [to do that],” said vocalist Kean Cipriano during the launch of their latest CD held at Mogwai Bar, Cubao Expo, Quezon City on Nov. 27.

“Even if it means they like our music, we’ll still draw the line when it happens.”

The band is especially protective of their rights as recording artists with their third and eponymous album which they say, represents who they are.

“If in the first CD we were excited, in the second, aggressive, this time we were able to strike a balance resulting to our best album yet,” said Kean.

Callalily members Lemuel Belaro (drummer), Aaron Ricafrente (bassist), Tatsi Jamnague and Alden Acosta (guitarists) agree that even if “Callalily” doesn’t sell as much as their previous albums, they’d still consider it their masterpiece.

“It was designed to be an honest, no-frills showcase of our emotions and views. The self-titled album was to symbolize being about ' us ' in our purest form,” a press release quoted Alden as saying.

The band largely credits hitting their stride to their producers, ex-Eraserhead and current bassist of The Dawn Buddy Zabala and Sancho Sanchez.

“We learned a lot from them. They supervised in a way that they kept every detail in check while allowing us to explore. Their ideas were magical and we had lots of fun in the studio,” said Alden.

The songs in “Callalily” talk about a myriad of topics. Some of these are letting go (“Someday Oneday”), changes (“Eyes On Me [Ooh-Lala],” “Dance All Night”), heartbreak (“Dahilan”) and love (“L.O.V.E” and “Goodnight”).

The “Callalily” track list is completed with “Nagagalit,” “Langit,” “Right,” “Liwanag,” “Gabay” and the carrier single, “Nananaginip.”

“[The composition of the songs] are a mix of sweetness and angst,” Alden summed.

“Organic,” Kean chirped.

Prior to “Callalily,” the band released the hit CDs “Destination XYZ” and “Fisheye.” All three are under Sony Music Entertainment. These yielded the hit songs “Stars,” “Take My Hand,” “Magbalik,” “Pasan,” “Sanctuary” and “Susundan.”

Callalily dedicates their new album to their loyal fans, the ‘Callalistas.’

“We are proud to say that our Callalistas are the most solid supporters in the world. We love them more than they know and we will not be here if not for them. The fact that we are growing together, this will never stop. They love us and we love them. As long as we ' re alive... we ' ll shine!”
