Quezon City authorities decided Saturday to exercise austerity measures in celebrating the holiday season by using old Christmas lanterns to decorate the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) and the city’s major roads.

Tadeo Palma, secretary to the Quezon City mayor, said the city government stands to save at least P1 million by repairing and hanging more than 200 used parols (Christmas lanterns) in the city’s various sites.

On orders of Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Palma instructed Zaldy de la Rosa, chief of the city’s Parks Development and Administration Department (PDAD), to coordinate with Donato Matias, head of the city’s Barangay Operations Center (BOC), for the installation of harmonious decorative Christmas ornaments.
