Mikey pushes for mom’s House candidacy
Presidential son Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo is now taking the backseat to pave way for his mother’s congressional bid should she decide to run in the May, 2010 elections.
The young Arroyo, who is qualified for reelection next year, on Saturday joined the unison of voices urging President Arroyo to run for congresswoman
in the second district of their home province.
“My dear mother, in your decision-making, my sentiments must be taken as inconsequential. My political future must be taken to the backseat because as public servants we have sworn to give our all to our country,” he told over 200 local government officials in Pampanga, who called on the President to run for a congressional seat.
“Madame President, I believe that the best service I can give my constituents, whom I've grown to love so much, is urging you not to deny them the privilege of being represented by your person,” he said.
The presidential son said apart from the political leaders, several groups, including farmers, fishermen, businessmen, investors, and medium-scale entrepreneurs have thrown their full support behind the President’s bid once she decides to run.
A number of mayors, led by Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda, president of the Pampanga Mayors League, Inc., urged Mrs. Arroyo to be their “voice” in Congress.
The Pampanga mayors filed Resolution No. 77, urging the President to heed the clamor of her constituents to run as second district representative in Pampanga.
“You don't have to file your candidacy, allow these mayors, barangay captains to go there to the Comelec and file it for you,” the young Arroyo said.
Until now, the President is keeping the public waiting about her political plans when she leaves Malacañang on June 30, 2010.
The young Arroyo assured his mother that she has the full support of the second district since close to 95 percent of almost one million voters in Pampanga supported her bid in 2004.
“This Madame President, my mother, will be the best gift of gratitude you'll be giving them for all their support not only to you, to me, but our ancestors, as well,” he said.
“If and when the president heeds the call of our people and the voice of God, then I'd like to say that the district, province, will show her how much she should be appreciated,” he added.
