BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Mayor Joet S. Garcia disclosed Saturday that the city government here is mulling to grant cash incentives to the first 200 tricycle drivers who will apply for conversion of their units to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel which is environmentally friendly.

According to Garcia, the first 200 tricycle drivers who could avail of the program will be given R5,000 cash reward as part of the city government’s program to encourage tricycle drivers to shift from gasoline to LPG as fuel for their tricycle units.

However, he pointed that conversion from diesel or gasoline to LPG will still be regulated and governed by a government agency for safety features of the proposed scheme.

But Garcia pointed out that this is just a plan so that the city will be ready in case the program materializes but vowed to push it through.

In anticipation of the program of LPG conversion, the LPG refilling station in this city will be inaugurated come December 21.

The station’s facilities were sponsored reportedly by the Liquigaz, an LPG company based in Mariveles town.

With the cash incentives and other benefits the city government is providing, Garcia expressed optimism that several tricycle units will have to be converted to LPG fuel, making this city more environment-friendly.
