RP Patriots seek 5th straight win vs Tigers
Game Tuesday (Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig)
4 p.m. — RP Patriots vs Thailand Tigers
The Philippine Patriots go for their fifth straight win in fledging ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Championship when they face the Thailand Tigers this Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Having equaled the four-game winning run of the Singapore Slingers, the Patriots hope to do one better over the Slingers should they win over the Tigers in their 4 p.m. encounter.
Coach Louie Alas and team manager Erick Arejola like their chances, having beaten the Tigers, 74-61, the first time they clashed.
Apart from that, the Patriots have also won their two other games in Manila, including a crushing 70-53 win over the Slingers.
“The boys are in high spirits, so we’re confident we can put up another good game. Hopefully, we can extend our winning run,” said Arejola. “As long as we stay focused, we will always have a good chance.”
They have also beaten the Satria Muda BritAma of Indonesia twice in this home-and-away tournament which is now entering its second month.
Their win over the Kuala Lumpur Dragons recently coupled by the loss of Slingers, enabled the Patriots, co-owned by Harbour Centre president and CEO Dr. Mikee Romero and businessman Tonyboy Cojuangco, to vault in front of the standings with a 5-1 record.
Romero, however, cautioned his boys not take the Tigers (2-5) lightly, saying: “We can never tell, so we have to come out strong each game. We are almost halfway of the elims.”
