CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia Tuesday filed her certificate of candidacy (COC), seeking reelection as Cebu’s first lady governor for a third straight term.

Garcia, who is also the provincial chairperson of Lakas-CMD-Kampi and chairman of Cebu’s ruling party One Cebu, also made a surprise move when she announced businessman Glenn Soco, a newcomer in politics, as her running mate.

Along with other candidates running under One Cebu, Garcia and Soco trooped to the provincial office of the Commission on Election at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to file her candidacy.

Although she said that 10:20 a.m. was just a time that came into her mind when she was planning to file her candidacy, 1020 or October 20, is the birth date of her running mate, Soco.

During the press conference at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Garcia urged Cebuanos to support Soco even as she vowed to continue her commitment to serve Cebuanos along with Soco as her vice governor.

Soco, an ally of the governor, is a visible supporter in her sports and economic programs.

He also runs a manpower agency supplying non-permanent workers in the Capitol Garcia, earlier, announced that One Cebu, which is supported by majority of the elected officials in the province, will support the presidential bid of Sec. Gilbert Teodoro.

Tuesday, however, she said the party will have to wait until all of the COCs are filed before they can decide on who to support in the vice presidential race.

Politicians running for national positions have been courting Garcia and the One Cebu party for support. Cebu, a vote-rich province, delivered the winning margin of nearly two million votes that catapulted President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to the presidency.

The Comelec Tuesday said Cebu province now has a total of 2.4 million voters.
