Clarice Patrimonio rose shrugged off an opening set loss to boot out Nattawadee Kotcha of Thailand, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, and stay on track in the girls’ competitions of the Phinma International Juniors Week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The win set up Patrimonio for a second round duel with either fifth seed Rana Sherif Ahmed of Egypt or Riko Sawayanagi of Japan.

The 16-year-old Patrimonio also became the only local survivor in this week-long tournament after five RP wildcard bets, including her older sister Christine, were shown the exit one after another.

The elder Patrimonio started off hotly but lost steam after the first set to absorb a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 beating from Rona Lavian of Israel.

De Sutter surprised sixth pick Mana Ayukawa of Japan, 6-1, 7-5, and Jager stunned No. 7 Noy Mor of Israel, 6-2, 6-1.

Local netters in the boys’ hostilities were in action at presstime with Week 1 winner and top seed Francis Casey Alcantara playing China’s Xing Bang.
