Patrimonio, Alcantara advance
Clarice Patrimonio produced the worthiest win Wednesday while Francis Casey Alcantara marched into the quarterfinals expectedly in the Phinma International Juniors Week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Patrimonio, the last local female netter in the tournament, stunned fifth pick Rana Sherif Ahmed of Egypt, 6-1, 7-6 (3), an hour before Alcantara clobbered unseeded Takashi Saito of Japan, 6-0, 6-1.
The 16-year-old daughter of four-time PBA Most Valuable Player thus arranged a Final 8 meeting with fourth seed and Week 1 titlist Tian Ran of China, who disposed of Belgium’s Klaartje Liebens, 6-3, 6-1.
Alcantara, gunning for his second title in two weeks, collides with Japanese Soichiro Moritani, a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Italy’s Gianmarco Cacace.
Cacace dumped local bet Akio Sy, 6-2, 6-0, on the day six other Filipino male netters crash out of the event.
That also left Alcantara as the lone RP male survivor in the tournament.

John Maverick Victoria also proved to be an easy prey, losing to Australian Jack Schipanski, 6-2, 6-3, and Leander Lazaro suffered a 7-5, 6-3 drubbing at the hands of Israel’s Dor Belfer of Israel.
