Aurora Sevilla nabbed for alleged drug peddling
Aurora Sevilla, an ‘80s actress who lay low in the late ‘90s and had a brief comeback in an afternoon soap early this year, was nabbed for alleged drug pushing on Dec. 3.
Q Channel 11’s “Balitanghali” reported on Dec. 4 that Sevilla was caught by Mandaluyong Police operatives around 10 p.m. of Dec. 3 along Kalentong Street in Mandaluyong City selling shabu to a resident named Rodney Chuidian.
The news report added that the policemen had earlier received an anonymous tip concerning a former actress allegedly pushing illegal drugs in their area around Mandaluyong.
Upon investigation, Chuidian, 31, admitted to the law enforcers that he was indeed bent on buying amphetamine derivative substance from Sevilla.
Chuidian recalled to the news crew of Q Channel 11, which is a GMA-7 affiliate, that when he asked Sevilla for the shabu’s price, she replied 700 pesos.
Sevilla, on the other hand, vehemently denied the allegation. She said in her sworn statement that she went to Kalentong Street to play slot machines in the hope of raising enough money for her child’s field trip and was shocked that somebody suddenly handed two sachets of shabu to her.
The news report added that the two sachets of shabu confiscated from Sevilla were worth about 2,000 pesos.
It concluded that Sevilla remains under police investigation and is set to undergo a drug test.
Crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1984, Sevilla joined show business three years later via the comedy “Okleng Tokleng.” She soon became a favorite leading lady of action stars like now Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. who did three movies with her, namely “Chinatown: Sa Kuko ng Dragon,” “Moises Platon,” and “David Balondo ng Tondo.”
As action movies – and Philippine cinema in general – declined in the late ‘90s, Sevilla also dropped out of the scene. She was later reported to have fallen on hard times.
Last May, Sevilla was featured on GMA-7’s “Wish Ko Lang” after sending a letter asking for help. She said she feared being evicted from the rented room that she’s sharing with her kids due to non-payment of rent.
After her wish was granted, Sevilla got a part in GMA-7’s “Sinenovela Presents: Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat sa Akin,” which ran from June 22 to Sept. 25, 2009.
