Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called Saturday on presidentiables to work for genuine political reconciliation if elected by doing away with vindictiveness, saying it is the only way for the next administration to succeed.

Marcos, only son of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, is running for senator under the Nacionalista ticket of Senator Manuel Villar.

He said that this early, those vying for the presidency should promise that working genuine reconciliation between and among different sectors of society will be a top agenda in their administration.

Marcos stressed that reconciliation should be launched as soon as the next President is elected to embrace all parts of Philippine society, including the insurgents.

“The next government should adhere to national reconciliation in its true meaning. It should not be vindictive. Otherwise, it will fail,” Marcos said.

He noted that past administrations have failed to produce national political reconciliation in the country because some of them were unforgiving.

However, he clarified that despite political reconciliation, law and justice must be allowed to take its course for those who did something wrong with the country.

“It would be time to move on as we let the wheels of justice take its course. True reconciliation can be achieved simultaneously with truth and justice,” he said.
