Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza of the Lone District of Agusan del Sur Monday called on oil companies not to unjustly raise fuel prices so as not to make life more difficult for the Filipino masses, not only during the Yuletide Season, but also for as long as possible.

Plaza, principal author of House Bill 5942 and a candidate for senator under the banner of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) led by President Joseph Estrada, urged oil firms not to be so obsessed with profit and instead exercise their corporate responsibilities to promote the interest and welfare of the people.

Plaza served in the House of Representatives for three terms before joining the Senate race. His Senate bid is being endorsed by several organizations led by 1-AK, a duly accredited party-list organization headed by Eduardo Morales as chairman and president.

Among Plaza’s accomplishments as a lawmaker are elevating the Philippine Normal University (PNU) into the National Center for Teacher Education, tripling the number of energized barangays, completing road and bridge projects that cut by half the travel time from Butuan City to Davao City, and paving the way for speedy and efficient delivery of goods from farms to markets.

An advocate of family planning, Plaza said he believes no career accomplishment can compensate for a parent’s failure to create a happy home for his children. Making his children feel and realize their self-worth through an abundance of encouragement, love and faith is a noble mission which a good father must not miss.
