Police arrested Monday two supporters of suspended Rodriguez Mayor Pedro Cuerpo when the  mayor, along with his supporters, figured in a commotion when they were prevented from entering the town hall.

Among those arrested were Solaiman Abdul Masia and Benidicto Asis, who were reportedly mauled when they managed to enter the municipal hall.

Cuerpo, bearing a stay order from Malacañang so that he may resume his position as mayor reportedly went to the town hall Monday but policemen prevented him and his supporters from entering the premises to enforce the Palace order.

The mayor temporarily vacated his post after the Sandiganbayan issued a suspension over his alleged negligence in removing shanties along the river years ago. He was replaced by Cuerpo supporters nabbed Vice Mayor Jonas Cruz, who served as acting mayor during his suspension.

Reporters were also not allowed to enter the town hall and claimed they were driven out by the law enforcers.

Cuerpo alleged that the move was a political maneuver of Rizal Gov. Jun. Ynares to prevent media from covering the area and allegedly responsible for giving such instruction to the police.

Ynares, in a text message to the Manila Bulletin denied any knowledge or order instructing policemen to prevent newsmen covering the incident. "Wala akong order coz wala akong alam what's going on. I have nothing to do with whatever is going on," Ynares said.

Cuerpo and Ynares are the two contenders for the gubernatorial seat of Rizal in the 2010 elections.
