Tigers surprise Slingers in ABL
The Thailand Tigers shook off their disappointing loss to the Philippine Patriots in the ASEAN Basketball league last week by shocking the Singapore Slingers, 65-62, last Monday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Following a devastating 61-77 setback to the Patriots in Pasig City, the Tigers, considered goners against the Slingers, surprised everyone with an explosive game, mostly in the third quarter where they led by as much as 14 points which cushioned the fightback by the hosts for the upset win.
It was the Thais' only third victory in nine games but this kept them in contention for a semifinals berth.
Ratdech Kruatiwa and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn powered the Tigers with 15 and 13 points, respectively, while American reinforcement Chaz Briggs added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Michael LeBlanc led Singapore’s losing cause with 23 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Jeffers added eight points and 16 boards. Filipino point guard Al Vergara, on the other hand, registered six points, three rebounds, and four assists.
After a 4-0 start, the Slingers have since lost three of their last four games, including two straight at home. They, however, kept second spot at 5-3 behind the Patriots’ 7-1.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Dragons seek their fourth win in eighth outings when they battle cellar-dweller Brunei Barracudas this Wednesday in Bandar Seri Begawan.
