UST tossers beat Adamson
Defending champion University of Santo Tomas stormed to its second straight win by downing Adamson, 25-13, 25-13, 23-25, 25-16, in the 72nd UAAP men's volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.
John Paul Torres topscored with 17 points while Henry Pecana and Jayson Ramos added 14 and 13 points, apiece, as the Tigers tied Far Eastern University for the early lead.
The Tamaraws, led by Kirk Belitran's 16 points, defeated University of the Philippines, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.
UST, aiming for a third straight crown, won its 20th straight game and has not lost a match since dropping Game 2 of the finals to FEU in March last year.
The Tigers went on to win that series before coasting to a perfect 17-0 mark last season for their second consecutive title.
In other games, Ateneo defeated National University, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, on Andre Joseph Pareja's 20 points while La Salle repulsed University of the East, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.
With their wins, the Eagles and Archers forged a four-way tie with UP and UE at 1-1.
