Co-star says Enchong Dee unperturbed with ‘gay’ tag
Actress Jessy Mendiola disclosed that Enchong Dee just laughs off people calling him ‘gay.’
Dee’s former co-star in the now defunct show “Boystown” said the actor is aware of the gay issue heaped on his persona but just brushes it aside.
"He just makes a joke out of it. He doesn't take it seriously," said Mendiola who maintained that her award-winning athlete-friend is “straight.”
She added: "He is really a gentleman especially when it comes to dealing with girls. Maybe this is one of the reasons he is being rumored to be gay, because he is just careful with girls.”
Mendiola admitted that she and some of their co-stars have long heard speculations about Dee’s sexual preference.
"Me and Empress (Schuck), we’ve heard rumors about [Dee] being supposedly a homosexual…[but] we know he likes girls, so, really, I think it’s impossible that he is [gay],” she shared.
Hailing from Camarines Sur and currently studying Developmental Studies in De La Salle University, Dee tried out showbiz to follow in the footsteps of his older brother AJ Dee. He was introduced in the teen-oriented series “Abt Ur Luv” together with fellow young stars Megan Young and Victor Basa.
Dee went on to star alongside Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson in “My Girl” and “Your Song Presents: My Only Hope.” He was reunited with “Abt Ur Luv” partner Empress Schuck therafter in a Jericho Rosales-Kristine Hermosa teleserye.
The 20-year-old champion swimmer said he has no qualms baring his body for photos and fashion shows as he is used to wearing nothing but swimming trunks during trainings and competitions.
“I think it's okay to wear almost next to nothing if it’s for work or competition. But if someone will ask me to flaunt (my body) just because it looks good supposedly, I’d rather not. I still want a part of me to remain private,” he once said.
Though his readiness to bare has earned for him increased marketability, questions about his sexual preference came after some quarters noticed what they deemed “a bit of softness” with his posture and movement.
