House Speaker Prospero Nograles instructed Saturday the House Committee on Drugs to look into the shipment of high-grade cocaine in Davao and find out if certain powerful politicians are behind it.

He called on the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Bureau of Customs (BoC) and the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) to conduct a separate and swift investigation on the matter, saying a delay in their probe would make them face dire consequences.

“I want to know if some powerful politicians are behind the drug shipment,” Nograles said in a text message.

Barely 24 hours after police seized some eight kilos of high-grade cocaine, another eight kilos of suspected cocaine were found in a compound of shipping containers in Davao City Saturday.

Former Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) chairman Vicente Sotto III said Senior Supt. Ramon Apolinario, Davao City police chief, informed him of the latest find after local law enforcers again visited the premises Saturday morning.

“Another eight kilos of suspected (cocaine) powder was discovered at the Maersk container port area located at the Old Airport Road, Sasa, Davao City around 12:30 p.m.,” Apolinario said.

“This is very dangerous because this is no longer shabu, this is cocaine,” Sotto said in a statement.

Supt. Alden Delvo, Sasa police chief, said a worker found the first packs of the illegal substance hidden in two reefer containers at the Maersk container yard at the old Sasa airport.
