Superstar boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and celebrity doctor Hayden Kho were the most searched subjects in the Philippines based on the year-end results of search engines Yahoo.com.ph and Google.com.ph.

The blockbuster demolition of his high-caliber opponents atop the ring allowed Pacquiao, the current pound-for-pound king, to snatch the crown as top topic among Filipino netizens in Yahoo’s search results.

The celebrities involved in the controversial sex video scandal -- Kho and Maricar Reyes -- who figured prominently in its search results. In Googles “personalities” category, Kho even topped Cory Aquino, the beloved former president whose death elicited an outpouring of support for her son Noynoy Aquino, who was the top choice in the “probable election candidates” category.

Interestingly, in Google’s “most popular” category, social networking site Friendster was ranked as number one, two notches ahead of Facebook. However, Facebook was tops in the “fastest rising” category.

Ondoy, the most destructive typhoon that hit the Philippines in recent memory, both figured in the results of both search engines although Google listed the entry as “Typhoon Ketsana.”

Yahoo also said Filipinos are “spending a lot more time searching and surfing the Internet on the mobile.” Its top three mobile searches for Philippines were NBA, Katrina Halili, and Pacquiao.

Compared to Google which had six categories, Yahoo only had two sub-categories under one comprehensive list.
