FEU halts UST run

Defending women’s champion La Salle dispatched University of the East, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21, even as Far Eastern University snapped the 21-game winning run of reigning men’s titlist University of Santo Tomas Wednesday in the 72nd UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Stephanie Mercado had another monster game with 19 points while Charleen Cruz added 12 as the Lady Archers remained undefeated in women’s action.

The Lady Archers needed a little over an hour to beat the Lady Warriors.

In the other game, Adamson got 21 points from Angela Benting and 20 from Pau Soriano to defeat Ateneo, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, for its third win in four outings – the same record of University of Santo Tomas.

In men's action, the Tamaraws drew huge game from Rodolfo Labrador to become the first team to beat the Tigers in two years, 25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20.

The hard-hitting Labrador sizzled with 17 points.

Despite the defeat, the Tigers, who got 18 points from John Paul Torres, remained on top pf the leaderboard with a 3-1 mark.
