Puno, Biazon dispute Muntinlupa House seat

It will be Ricardo “Dong” Puno versus Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon for congressman in Muntinlupa City’s lone district.

The battle-royale between two prominent political figures was arranged after Puno, a former newscaster, accepted an offer by Lakas-Kampi-CMD to be the party’s congressional bet in the 2010 national elections.

Already in his third term as senator, Biazon, for his part, will gun for the same position that would be vacated by his son, Rep. Ruffy Biazon, under the Liberal Party (LP) banner.

In turn, the younger Biazon will run for senator, also under the LP ticket of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

This marks the third time that Puno, a major figure and top executive of television giant ABS-CBN before, will be throwing his hat into the political arena.

In 2001, Puno ran for senator but missed the cut and in 2007 he barely lost to the younger Biazon. Puno also served as Press Secretary during the administration of former President Joseph Estrada.
