Phillip Salvador wants Piolo, John Lloyd to remake ‘Cain at Abel’
If there's a movie that multi-awarded actor Phillip Salvador would like to remake, it is the classic “Cain at Abel” which he and equally-talented actor Christopher de Leon starred in 1982.
Talks about remakes with Phillip surfaced during the recent Christmas party for “Panday” in which he plays the popular villain character Lizardo, once popularized by the late Max Alvarado.
“Maraming puwedeng i-remake. 'Yong mga ‘Joe Pring’ ko noon, ‘Jaguar,’ ‘Masahol Pa sa Hayop.’ Marami kang puwedeng ilagay na artista diyan [gaya nila] Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz. Ang gusto ko, magawa nila 'yong ‘Cain at Abel,’” Phillip said.
Phillip suggested combinations of actors whom he prefers to breathe new life into the lead charcaters of the classic film.
“Gawin mong John Lloyd-Diether, Jericho-John Lloyd, gawin mong Richard-Dingdong. Classic 'yon. Actually, I read na ginawa raw ni Piolo 'yung ‘Jaguar,’ eh,” he said.
The prized actor lauded Sen. Revilla for pouring his all into making “Panday” a real treat to kids.
“Umuuwi si Bong [from shooting] na lupaypay ang katawan sa pagod. You know what, it is because he has heart. ‘Yong heart mo, pag ginawa mo sa trabaho, everything follows. Kailangan tapusin natin 'yong eksena. Ganoon si Bong that's why I'm so happy.”
For his part, Phillip consciously deviated from playing his role the way Max did.
“I did my own interpretation, sarili ko. Kung si Max noon, evil, siya, ako, ginawa ko si Lizardo na devil. If you notice, he laughs, he gets angry and then he gets holy. ‘Yun ang demonyo, eh, kung anu-ano ang nagagawa,” he said.
Playing Lizardo is Phillip's first contravida role so he ensured that his portrayal would stand out.
“First time ko ring makasama [sa isang movie] sina Bong, Rhian Ramos, direk Mac Alejandre. If I'm doing a contravida role for the first time, I might as well be satisfied with my role. Ayoko naman na gagawa ako ng first kontrabida role ko na nagawa na ng lahat.
“Nagtrabaho kami ni Bong, nagtulungan kami talaga. Gusto naming lumutang si Flavio at si Lizardo, ‘yung talagang battle nilang dalawa,” he explained.
The actor disclosed that the preparation for “Ang Panday,” which took a year to make, convinced him that it was a project worth doing.
“Kung hindi ganitong klase ang plinanong paggawa, baka hindi ko gawin. Kasi ibang klase ang planning namin, one year, eh.”
So, what was the hardest part in playing Lizardo?
“Lahat, pati na 'yung boses ko. Mahirap talaga. Nagpa-kalbo pa ako. Hinarness din ako,” he said.
