Parents are still worried about their kids being on the net. We know that there’s potential problems even eminent danger that they may encounter once online. Which is why I’ve mentioned time and again that armed with the right tools, parents can properly guide their children on proper Internet usage and make sure that they enjoy a positive and healthy online experience.

We’re always on the look out for material or data that would help us take better precautionary measures as to the net us of our kids.

Here’s something that’s equally good to know. Recently, the enhanced Parental Control feature in Windows 7, the latest operating system from Microsoft, came out with something that assists parents in ensuring that kid’s net usage is safe.

Online dangers include harmful content and software threats such as malware, which makes computers vulnerable. Windows 7 delivers on the promise of making it easier for people to do the things that they want on their PC.

Windows 7 comes with significant new features that simplify tasks and allow people to get the most out of computers of all styles and sizes. The enhanced Parental Controls feature enables parents to find out how their children are using the computer, monitor the sites they visit and games they play, as well as set time limits when it comes to computer use.

“Building Windows 7 has been a collaborative process from the beginning, with Microsoft’s engineers and designers working with customers and partners to build an operating system that delivers on the vision of the PC, simplified.

We’ve also sought the involvement of parents in this process with the belief that they are the ones who are truly aware of the needs of their children,” stated Liezl Milan, Windows Client Product Manager, Microsoft Philippines. “Every feature of Windows 7 is built with our mission in mind – to foster a positive computing experience for all technology users and in this case, ensure family safety too,” said Milan.

We also found out that Windows 7 has the Parental Control feature. I’ve touched on this some time ago and it’s like remote control parenting or “mobile parenting,” as how multi-faceted actor and director Audie Gemora calls it.

This is how he describes his technique when it comes to dealing with his only son Richard. Long nights of rehearsals don’t keep him from ensuring that his son is safe from online risks such as malware and other malicious content by using the enhanced Parental Controls Feature offered in Windows 7.

With the proliferation of online threats such as cyber-bullying, identity theft, and pornography, the virtual world has become an alarmingly dangerous place for children.

Like my son Keoni, 7, Audie’s son, age 9, is also already tech-savvy, so you can just imagine how equally horrified Audie must have been when those video scandals spread all over the Internet.
The Parental Controls feature of Windows 7 helps parents like us feel secure that our kids will only get to see material that’s appropriate for them. “At least now I can focus on my work with peace of mind, knowing that my son is protected from those kinds of threats,” said Audie.
