Thieves break into Baguio city hall
BAGUIO CITY — Probers are now facing a blank wall on how unidentified robbers are able to burglarize four offices in the eastern portion of the two-story city hall building here early Tuesday morning.
Worst, the still undetermined number of robbers were able to cart away at least P1 million in cash and office and personal valuables of the occupants of the four offices located just a stone’s throw away from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO).
Chief Superintendent Samuel B. Diciano, deputy regional director for administration of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), ordered police investigators to work double time in ascertaining the identities of the burglars who ransacked the offices of the city mayor’s Public Order and Safety Division (POSD), councilors Nicasio Palaganas and Gloria Yzabel Vergara-de Vera, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) city field office.
Despite the presence of roving security guards and policemen within the vicinity of the building, initial police investigation showed the burglars were able to freely enter the said offices by passing through the eastern wing stairs of the city hall unnoticed.
Taken from the POSD office were a Canon digital camera, one box of corned beef, two boxes pork and beans, and two boxes of noodles. In the office of councilor Palaganas, the burglars carted away a laptop, while one LCD monitor, one laptop, and one video camera was taken from the office of councilor De Vera.
At the DILG field office, the robbers took a still undetermined amount of cash from the donation box stationed there for the victims of Typhoon “Pepeng” and the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) while the coins were scattered all over the place.
