Miriam: Armed and unafraid
A day after disclosing she had received death threats, the senator announced she is armed with a powerful firearm.
In a radio interview, Santiago said her husband, Narciso Santiago Jr., a presidential adviser on revenue enhancement, has given her an “HK” or Heckler & Koch handgun.
"Binigyan ako ng asawa ko ng mas mabigat na baril. It's an HK,” Santiago said over DZXL radio.
Heckler and Koch is a German defense firm that specializes in small firearms, for example the MP5 submachine gun, G3 automatic rifle and the more recent G36 assault rifle, the MP7 personal defense weapon, USP series of handguns and the high-precision PSG1 sniper rifle.
H&K has a history of innovation in firearms, such as the use of polymers in their weapon designs and polygonal rifling.
Last Tuesday, Santiago claimed she received death threats which she believes were instigated by a Cabinet member.
She promised to name the Cabinet member in a plenary session when Congress resumes session on January.
