The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday that voters’ registration is up to December 29, 2009 only in order to give way to other registration process.

“The (Supreme Court) resolution said we should register up to January 9. But what’s not taken into account is the fact that ‘yung filing of application for registration is not the registration itself,” Comelec Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer said.

“You are not a registered voter unless you passed the election review board (ERB). Tiyakan ka lang ma-consider na voter kung pasado ka dun. Before the ERB takes cognizance of application may posting yan e,” he added.

Ferrer appealed to first time voters not to wait for the last day before registering.

“They should get rid of the mañana habit. Ganyan tayo e. Nagdadagsaan sa last day,” he said.

Last week, the SC upheld the petition of the Kabataan party-list directing the commission to extend registration until January 9, 2010.

It can be recalled that the registration for the May 2010 polls ended last October 31 after the commission cited the need to finish registration earlier due to the poll automation.
