Corteza looks to keep winning run

Fresh from winning the 4th National Pool Championship, Lee Van Corteza hopes to add another title when he competes in the Predator World Tour early next year.

Corteza, the current world No. 4, nipped the reigning Predator 10-Ball champion Dennis Orcullo in the semifinals, 9-7, before downing Rodrigo Geronimo, 11-6, in the final to repeat as national champion last week.

“After winning the national championship, I hope to do well again in the Predator World Tour,” said Corteza of the event set January 6 to 9 next year at the the Lloret de Mar in Girona, Spain.

One of the most feared money player in the world, Corteza is on a roll this year, having won the Derby City Classic 10-Ball Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second World Ten Ball Championship.

The pride of Davao also had a second place finish in the Derby City Classic 9-Ball Challenge, a third-place finish in the World Mixed Doubles and a fourth-place finish in the US Open 9-Ball Championship.

Corteza will also banner the country’s campaign in the 1st WPA World Team Championship set Jan. 30 to Feb 7, 2010 in Germany.

Joining Corteza in the six-man squad are WPA 8-ball and 9-ball champion Ronato Alcano, Antonio Lining, Warren Kiamco, Marlon Manalo and Orcullo.

The tournament, considered the “Olympics” of pool, will feature 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball events with the champion getting the lion’s share of $100,000.
