BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The total number of scholarships to be granted by the city government here next year will be increased to 2,000 students and at the same time their stipends will be also increased.

This was disclosed by Mayor Joet S. Garcia during the recent Christmas party of the City Hall employees, who said that he and the City Council had agreed to increase the allowances of the poor but deserving scholars of the city.

Aside from increasing the number of scholars here, Garcia also said that they will increase the students’ stipends from P10,000 to P12,000 yearly, the biggest so far granted to the scholars in the province.

The provincial government headed by Bataan Gov. Tet Garcia has also been granting P5,000 allowance per students.

A total of 6,000 students – 3,000 from the provincial government and another 3,000 from the Second District – have been yearly granted stipends by the provincial government, which is also being supported by Rep. Abet S. Garcia (2nd District, Bataan).

But the governor said that they will accept 3,000 more scholars this coming year, making 9,000 the total number of scholars that are being supported by the governor and his son Rep. Abet Garcia.

According to the governor, they will grant 3,000 more new scholars for the 1st District, saying his daughter Gila Garcia, coordinator of the 1st district, is now processing the applicants’ scholastic records to enable the new scholars to be given the chance to study free next year.

Gila has filed her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for a Congressional seat in the 1st district, challenging reelectionist Rep. Minia Roman.
