67 solons to ‘graduate’ from House
A total 67 congressmen will "graduate" from the House of Representatives, with most of them expected to either run for another position or get relatives to alternate for them.
At least 27 of them will hibernate in other elective posts. The rest will just fade away or ask members of their families to temporarily fill in the House vacancy while they take a rest.
Speaker Prospero Nograles Jr. heads the list of solons who have served their third and and last term in office.
Nograles will be seeking the mayoral post in his native Davao City. He faces Vice Mayor Sarah Duterte, the daughter of his political nemesis, incumbent Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is also a "graduating" mayor.
Reps. Rodolfo "Ompong" Plaza of Agusan del Sur has filed for senator. A member of the powerful Commission on Appointments, Plaza heads the senatorial lineup of the Nationalist People's Coalition.
Also running for senator are Reps. Rufino Rozzano Biazon of Muntinlupa City; Rissa Hontiveros Baraquel of Akbayan; and Teofisto Guingona III of Bukidnon. The trio is running under the Liberal Party banner.
Party-list Reps. Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna and Liza Maza of Gabriela were included in the senatorial ticket of the Nacionalista Partty.
At least 15 others are vying for gubernatorial positions, including Party-List Rep. Mujiv Hataman of Anak Mindanaw, who will run under the LP in troubled Basilan against Gov. Jum Akbar, wife of slain Rep. Wahab Akbar, who was killed in a bomb explosion at the Batasan Building in Nov. 2007.
